We Are at Crossroads

The alarming rise of lifestyle diseases and why education is the answer.

Lifestyle Disease Epidemic

Diabetes, BP, Arthritis, Thyroid, Asthma, PCOD - account for 90% of healthcare spending. Every street now has a medical shop and specialist clinics.

Preventable Through Diet

These diseases are easily preventable or reversible by changing what we eat - from calorie-rich nutrient-poor to nutrient-rich calorie-poor foods.

Education is
Missing

Diet and lifestyle education is almost entirely absent from schools, colleges, and even MBBS courses - despite being vital for health.

The Healthcare Paradox

When you step into a hospital for any issue—even a small cut on a finger—from security guards to nurses to doctors, everyone will ask you one question repeatedly: "Do you have BP or Sugar or Cholesterol?" If you don't have any of these conditions, the world looks at you as a stranger, an abnormal human being!

There is an alarming rise in lifestyle-related illnesses such as Diabetes, Blood Pressure, Arthritis, Thyroid issues, Asthma, PCOD, and Breathing disorders in India and across the world. These lifestyle diseases are the leading cause of premature death and account for 90% of healthcare spending for families and countries.

Healthcare professional

We used to have one medical shop per town. Now every street has multiple pharmacies, along with orthopedic, cardiology, pulmonology specialists, and even fertility clinics. We are clearly at crossroads!

But it is preventable or reversible...

These so-called lifestyle diseases are easily preventable or reversible—by just one thing: our diet and what we eat

We have been fed with incorrect information about food and diets. When our information is wrong, our actions are likely to be wrong. Incorrect food choices lead directly to lifestyle diseases. What we eat today is mostly calorie-rich, nutrient-poor food. If we reverse this to nutrient-rich and calorie-light foods, everything changes.

The Transformation

All lifestyle diseases such as Diabetes, Blood Pressure, Arthritis, Thyroid issues, Asthma, PCOD, and Breathing issues reduce significantly or vanish completely. Right food choices coupled with the right lifestyle can make a great positive impact on our health and the health of our families.

The Root Cause & Solution

Wrong Information

We have been fed with a lot of incorrect information about food and diets. When our information is wrong, our actions are likely to be wrong.

Reverse the Pattern

What we eat today is mostly calorie rich, nutrient poor. Reverse this to nutrient rich, calorie poor foods, and everything changes.

Complete Reversal

All lifestyle diseases reduce significantly or vanish completely. Right food choices coupled with the right lifestyle make a great positive impact.

Education is Missing

The Gap

Given this reality, one would expect diet and lifestyle to be among the most important subjects taught in our education system—from 1–12 standards in schools to colleges and even in MBBS courses. Yet, this education is almost entirely absent.

Wrong Turn

Pioneers like Dr. Colin Campbell and Mr. Lalit Kapoor believe that about a century ago we took a wrong turn with the discovery of vitamins and antibiotics, leading to a reductionist approach.

Urgent Course Correction Needed

There is an urgent need to correct this course and begin health education early in life. Introduce Health Training (HT) or Health Education (HE), similar to Physical Training (PT) in school curricula.

Parents Are Ready

This initiative is likely to receive strong support from parents who are increasingly concerned about their children's growing dependence on unhealthy junk food promoted by Western fast-food chains.

Why Health Education Matters

Prevention Over Cure

Teaching nutrition early prevents diseases before they start, saving lives and healthcare costs

Nutrition Literacy

Empowering students with evidence-based knowledge about food and its impact on health.

Generational Impact

Students become ambassadors of health, influencing their families and communities

Let us Create Awareness

Muthu Ramalingam from The Plant Based Wellness Foundation has been helping create awareness among school and college students about right food choices and nutrition, so that we can prevent lifestyle diseases such as BP, Sugar, Asthma, and skin issues—or reverse them if we already have one.

The Plant Based Wellness Foundation has been teaching people how to eat and live healthfully for many years, and more than 300,000 individuals have benefited from these free courses. The foundation has conducted sessions in all major cities in India, at IITs, and through online courses.

Fresh vegetables and produce

Your support for such awareness not only benefits the individual but will benefit many generations down the line. We request your support in this mission to create awareness among educators, school leaders, and institutions that spread knowledge.
